Guilherme Marques Pedro

Guilherme Marques Pedro is a doctoral student in philosophy of law at the Department of Philosophy, Uppsala University where he is part of the project CIVIS SUM which looks at rule of law practices on the route to EU citizenship. Prior to coming to Uppsala, he was a lecturer in international relations at the University of Beira Interior in Covilhã, Portugal. His research interests lie in the fields of international relations theory, political thought and the history of ideas more broadly with a specific emphasis on the philosophical foundations of human rights and international law.


Marques Pedro holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth where he defended his dissertation The Critical God: Reinhold Niebuhr’s existential turn to the Realist Tradition in 2011. The dissertation is in the process of being published.
