Max Lyles is Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in legal science at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. In 2006 he became LL.D. in legal history at Stockholm University after defending his dissertation A Call for Scientific Purity: Axel Hägerström's Critique of Legal Science which is a study into the philosophical underpinnings of Axel Hägerström's theory of legal science and its foundations in the philosophy of science. His research is conducted at the intersection of traditional legal history and philosophy of law/jurisprudence where the main focus has been on the role of legal science in legal history. At Örebro University, Lyles teaches mostly in legal history and jurisprudence but also in private law (torts and contracts). Since 2013, he is the director of the law division (Juridicum) at JPS.
